Wear Red for Women

I went to a Go Red for Women Breakfast at LaMalfa this morning. It was amazing to see everyone in red. I never knew so many women owned red jackets! I sat with some really nice people including Barb Comiskey, who facilitated the breakfast and Deb Kogler from Magnifiers and More. it's a great company that sells products to people with low vision. All the rest I met for the first time - and I hope to get to know them better. I'll be going to another one at the Renaissance the end of the month. I'll let you know how that goes.

From Rocco Scotti to Chinese New Year

I had quite an interesting day - and it's not over. I interviewed Rocco Scotti this morning for ClevelandSeniors.Com. The article should be done soon, I'll let you know when. What a great voice he still has and he and his wife are such nice people. Then I left there and went to Li Wah, in Asia Plaza on Payne Avenue and got to see the Lion Dance celebration for Chinese New Year. That was pretty amazing too. I can't wait to see what the rest of the day brings!

Happy Year of the Ox!

Future Leaders Event

I'm pretty excited about the 2008 ClevelandWomen.Com Future Leaders event. It's our 2nd annual event. We had about 150 high school girls attend - from high schools all over Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. This years speakers included Mayor Jane Campbell, TV5 reporter Maurielle Lau and the amazing Cathy Horton.

I thought last years event (the Inaugural Event) was fantastic - and it was. But this years really blew it away. We're already planning the 2009 event and schools and sponsors have already asked to be included.

It's so impressive to see all these young girls interested in their futures and trying to make something of themselves. With all the negative press out there I really commend these girls and wish them well.

My friend Susan

My friend Susan St. John is part of her family's business - St. John Funeral Homes. I was really excited that her family business is finally on the web - they've needed a web presence for a long time, but because they are always so busy they never had a chance before.

I've known Susan for a long time - we even go to the same Church, even though we don't really live near each other. I'll be working with her at the Church BBQ in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm baaaack

Well now July 4th has come and gone and I haven't posted anything. There's been a lot going on too. Let's see...

First off, I saw the Opera outside at the Italian Cultural Gardens. It was sensational - and free! What a wonderful, beautiful event. Even a little rain couldn't stop it.

Oh, and my dog, Hogan had surgery AND a birthday - he's 4 now.

I've got a million other things to tell you about - so I'm going to be posting again real soon! Promise.

Memorial Day

I guess it's been awhile since I've blogged since my last post was about the Cavs winning game of of the Playoffs and we're already out. Oh well - next year!

It's Memorial Day and I have a great tradition with my mom. We watch the PBS Special from Washington and basically spend the full 2 hours crying. It is really a touching event. When they play the anthems for the Coast Guard, Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force and all the people in the audience stand up when their branch is mentioned you would have to be ice cold not to be moved.

There's so much about Memorial Day beyond just the picnics. I am so grateful for the service men and women who made it possible for me to do the things I do today. My dad was in the Army.

So I will enjoy the day. But as I'm eating all my great holiday foods, I'll also be thinking about the people who made the day possible.
